A lot has happened since Kyle Kordell took over as City Manager in Two Rivers, but arguably one of the biggest happenings is the planning process for the former Hamilton property.
The plot of land located along the East Twin River was vacated by the Hamilton Company in 2011, and demolition began on the building in 2015.
Since then, the land has sat empty, leaving prime real estate along the river and near the downtown begging for development.
Kordel and the City Council held its first public input session on the property in February, and have continued to hear from residents on what they think should be done.
The fourth phase of the Community Visioning Process is currently underway, with City Manager Kordell telling SeehaferNews.com that it is focusing on “how the site connects for downtown surrounding neighborhoods…This work is helping refine development concepts around walkability, land use, and overall community character. As we are moving toward a shared, community-driven vision which we’ve never had before.”
In the meantime, soil sampling has been scheduled for the week of May 18th, which Kordell says is a major next step, as it will allow city leaders “to better understand the soil conditions and help guide all the decisions that come next related to acquisition, remediation, and liability.”
Kordell estimates that a proposal created with the input from the public will be ready for review by the City Council this summer.
