The Manitowoc Lutheran girls’ soccer team is showing some promise in its inaugural season.
The Lancers hosted the #1 team in the Big East Conference, Cedar Grove-Belgium, last Thursday (April 23rd), and Coach Phil Stuebs tells us it was the team’s best match of the season.
That is despite a 5-1 loss.
Coach Stuebs specifically highlighted the goalie combo of Eve Overland and Evelyn Mies, who recorded 16 saves between them, while freshman Ava Glodowski continued her goal-scoring streak, netting the Lancers’ only goal.
She would bring that streak up to each of the first five games of the season on Friday as a part of a 2-2 tie with a Wrightstown team Stuebs said is “well coached.”
Junior Ava Stuebs tacked on the Lancers’ other goal, a corner kick which deflected off a defender into the net.
Miles had a great game in net, making 11 saves on the day.
The Lancers may only be 1-3-1 on the season, but there are definitely plenty of positive things the team can build on as they get ready to travel to Howards Grove on Thursday.
