There are several intriguing matchups today in local high school sports.
BASEBALL
The Manitowoc Lincoln baseball team has split its first ten games of the season, but the trend is looking upwards following a victory over state-ranked Green Bay Preble on Tuesday.
The Ships return home this afternoon to host Green Bay Southwest in FRCC play at Bruce Steinbecker Field.
They’ve worked their way into a four-way tie for fifth place in the FRCC (3- 3, 5-5 overall), but they’re just a game behind second-place Green Bay Preble and two-and-a-half games behind conference-leading and Division One top-ranked Bay Port.
They’ve been successful when they make the opposing pitcher work deep in counts, thus getting a pitch hitters can handle to get on base and be productive.
The Ships are hitting .271 as a team and sport an OPS of .741. Senior pitcher and shortstop Gabe Eichmann is filling the stat sheet with impressive numbers.
Through ten games, Eichmann is hitting a team-leading .433 and leads Lincoln in base hits (13), doubles (4), on-base percentage (.526), slugging percentage (.567), OPS (1.093), and stolen bases (6) and earned run average (1.11). Green Bay Southwest comes into town winless on the season (0-8 in The FRCC and overall).
In fact, the Trojans have simply had difficulty scoring, having just plated one run through eight games.
The first pitch is scheduled to be thrown at 4:30 p.m.

The Valders Vikings had a productive day at Citizens Park in Manitowoc on Wednesday at The EWC Challenge, picking up victories over Two Rivers and Kiel to move into a tie with New Holstein for first place in the EWC at 6-1, and they’re 7-2 overall.
The first pitch is scheduled to be thrown at 4:30 p.m.

Their strength has been offense as the Lancers had averaged better than four goals per match with senior Stevie Brunner leading the way with five goals, freshman Ava Glodowski has four goals, and junior Ava Steubs had 13 points with a team-leading nine assists and 2 goals.
