The Sheboygan Fire Department is grateful for the support of its community.
Last week, the department held a blood drive, which saw major turnout from Sheboyganites who wanted to help out.
This blood drive was held in conjunction with the rollout of the Sheboygan Fire Department’s new prehospital blood administration program, which was officially launched on April 15th.
This program allows paramedics to begin life-saving blood transfusions at the scene of an emergency or while en route to the hospital, with the department explaining, “Severe bleeding remains one of the leading causes of preventable death in trauma patients, and early access to blood has been shown to significantly improve survival.”
Over the past year, the prehospital blood administration program was developed in partnership with the Department’s Medical Director, Dr. Erin McGlynn, and Aurora Regional EMS.
To close, the Sheboygan Fire Department said, “Your willingness to give is what makes programs like this possible and helps save lives right here in Sheboygan… This is a great example of what can be accomplished when strong partnerships come together with a shared goal—providing the highest level of care to those we serve.”
