The City of Manitowoc is settling a relocation claim with a local business.
According to city documents, attorneys representing the Braun Building Center asked the city to pay for relocation after the city approved purchasing 24 acres of land owned by Canadian National in 2018 through the Community Development Authority (CDA), as required by state law.
The city then establishes boundaries and approves a project plan to create a TID in February 2020.
The law firm representing Braun then says the company was “displaced from its tenancy of premises located at 1103 Chicago Street in January 2025” and “neither the city nor CDA prepared a relocation plan for the area, and no relocation service, information, or assistance was provided to Braun.”
The city’s common council unanimously approved having the city attorney’s office prepare and execute all documents needed to settle the claim for an amount not to exceed over $173,000.
Braun has since built a truss center in Two Rivers in the Woodland Industrial Complex.
Manitowoc City Attorney Eric Nycz said the city is pleased the issue was resolved with a good outcome for both parties.
