The high school baseball and softball seasons are in full swing.
With an excellent weather forecast over the next several days, teams are hopeful to start getting into the flow of the season.
Starting with the boys, Manitowoc Lincoln, they begin the week with a road trip to Fond Du Lac against the Cardinals.
The Ships are coming off a three-game homestand and start this week with road games at Fondy and then take another bus ride to meet a very good Green Bay Preble team on Tuesday.
The first pitch is set for 4:30 p.m.
Manitowoc Lutheran is scheduled to have its home opener this afternoon against Howards Grove.
The Lancers were to open at home last Thursday against Kohler/Sheboygan Christian, but had to move the game to Kohler due to poor field conditions.
Elsewhere, Valders travels to Two Rivers, Roncalli will host Peshtigo, Sheboygan South entertains Elkhart Lake/Glenbeulah, Hilbert hosts Gibraltar/Washington Island, De Pere is at Appleton North, West De Pere visits the state’s top-ranked Division One team, Hortonville. Appleton West hosts Ashwaubenon, Notre Dame Academy of Green Bay goes to Appleton to play Xavier, Sturgeon Bay takes a bus ride to Green Bay NEW Lutheran, and Wrightstown has a home date with the Waupaca Comets.
Meanwhile, two of the top five teams in Division Three high school girls’ softball meet this afternoon as the fifth-ranked Valders Vikings play host to the fourth-ranked New Holstein Huskies.
The Huskies (4-0 and 6-1 overall) have a half-game lead on the Vikings (3-0 in The EWC and 4-1 overall). Both teams have been very proficient offensively to begin the season, as New Holstein has outscored their opponents 52 to 18, while Valders has scored 33 runs through five games while only giving up six, including just one run in conference play.
The anticipated pitching matchup features veteran Megan Hockammer of Valders with an ERA of .32 against New Holstein’s Reese Kraus, who sports an ERA of .58.
The first pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
The Two Rivers Raiders, ranked eighth in The Division Two Max Preps poll, hook up with rival Roncalli at the home of The Jets.
As good as things have been for TR, the Jets have struggled, in large part due to not being able to play and practice outside.
The first pitch is set for 4:30 p.m.
Elsewhere, Manitowoc Lutheran plays host to Cedar Grove/Belgium, Mishicot hosts Reedsville for a doubleheader, and the Kiel Raiders entertain the Chilton Tigers.
