The Manitowoc Public School District has received a special award in recognition of its collaboration with National Apprenticeship Week.
MPSD has been selected as a Career Pathways of Excellence Award honoree for the week, which takes place April 26th through May 2nd.
The district will recognize leadership and commitment to workforce development through its Youth Apprenticeship Program during the week.
More than 170 students are participating in Youth Apprenticeship, with 26 of those positions employed directly with MPSD.
Students gain hands-on experience in various roles, including School Nursing, English Learning, Teaching Assistant, IT, and Speech-Language Pathology, among others.
District Communications Specialist Ruby Gutierrez says the work also helps build a sustainable pipeline of future professionals by providing real-world experience, with some students returning to school to pursue further education.
Gutierrez concludes by stating that by investing in Youth Apprenticeship opportunities within its own schools, MPSD is not only enhancing daily operations but also strengthening its local workforce and preparing students for success beyond graduation.
