Efforts by Manitowoc County Service agencies kept an issue with the Shoto Dam from worsening.
Seehafernews.com received a text saying the Shoto Dam had failed, but that’s not the case.
Emergency Services Director Rhonda Green says their emergency operations center was activated around midnight early this morning (April 15th) after a wall on the dam began to erode due to the volume of water flowing through the river.
Residents near the dam were asked to either shelter in place or evacuate for their safety.
County crews then brought in heavy rocks to patch the eroding wall on the dam.
Green says the rocks fixed the wall and is holding steady, but they are keeping their emergency operations center open just in case.
She also said the water had receded very quickly, but more could still be coming from the Denmark area.
We’ve reached out to Two Rivers Fire Chief Dave Murack and Manitowoc County Sheriff Dan Hartwig to see if there are any new updates.
