The Manitowoc County Highway Department has announced that State Highway 147 in the Village of Mishicot has been closed due to rapidly rising water. The recommended detour is to take County Highway V to State Highway 42, then take County VV to get back onto State Highway 147. Also, the following road closures are due to rapidly rising water near the Shoto Dam.
County Highway B in Shoto, Manitou Drive, and East Shore Road.
Recommended detours to reach State Highway 310 for truck traffic (over 20 tons) are: County Highway V to County Highway R, then back to Highway 310. For lighter vehicles (under 20 tons) take County Highway V to County Highway Q and back onto State highway 310.
Reminders to motorists that conditions can change quickly with flooding, and more closures could follow; even if a road looks passable, water-covered roads are dangerous, translation depth, and current can be misleading.
A Flood Warning remains in effect for northern Manitowoc County, Northeastern Calumet County, along with Brown, Kewaunee, and northeastern Outagamie County, and a Flood Watch is in effect until 7 a.m. Wednesday (tomorrow) morning for all of northeastern Wisconsin.
3 to 5 inches of rain have fallen in portions of the listening area, with additional heavy rains expected on very saturated grounds. Motorists are also reminded to “turn around and don’t drown” when encountering flooded roads, as most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding, and be aware of your surroundings; do not attempt to drive on flooded roads.
