Milwaukee Public Schools is planning to add more teachers despite going through with plans for massive layoffs.
Wisconsin’s largest school district announced yesterday that it projects to have more than 150 certified teachers and paraprofessionals for the next school year.
This includes 89 classroom teachers.
The move is included in the district’s draft budget for the 2026-2027 school year.
The announcement comes as MPS moves forward with eliminating more than 200 non-classroom roles.
That choice was made in order to address a projected $46 million budget shortfall.
