
A Wisconsin city is approving a first-of-its-kind referendum targeting data center construction.
Unofficial results in Ozaukee County show Port Washington voters approved the referendum with about 66 percent support.
Now, future large-scale projects that receive tax benefits will be required to secure approval from local voters.
Data center construction across the country has faced growing opposition from local communities over the past year due to concerns about rising electricity prices, water usage, and other environmental impacts.
