Scammers have a habit of impersonating governmental agencies, and now they are posing as the DMV.
The Sheboygan Police Department has received numerous reports of citizens getting text messages with a “Final Legal Notice” for an “Unresolved traffic ticket.”
The text also includes a link to a website, which appears legitimate, but is not the actual DMV website.
The department is reminding residents, “The Wisconsin Department of Transportation or the Sheboygan Police Department will never contact you via text message to request payment for fines.”
Those with questions regarding legitimate parking tickets can visit SheboyganWI.gov.
