A Manitowoc resident was injured by an accidental firearm discharge over the weekend.
Manitowoc Police Detectives were called to a residence on Sunday after learning of a shooting.
The address was redacted from the police report.
The detectives learned that an 18-year-old man had returned home from a visit to Milwaukee, where he acquired a Smith and Wesson 9mm handgun.
He was showing another individual the firearm, and it accidentally discharged while the other person reached for it.
The round struck the second individual, whose name and age were redacted.
The suspect then hid the firearm in another room before taking the victim to the hospital.
When asked why they were reaching for the firearm, the victim said they “wanted to play with it and post it on Instagram.”
The suspect told law enforcement that he didn’t initially tell investigators about the firearm because he was scared, and admitted that he should have cleared the weapon before giving it to the victim.
The suspect was arrested on charges of Possession of a Dangerous Weapon by a Person Under 18, Endangering Safety by Use of a Dangerous Weapon, and Misdemeanor Bail Jumping.
