The Clipper City Chordsmen are helping celebrate the United States’ 250th anniversary.
Their spring show, entitled “Happy Birthday Uncle Sam,” takes place on Friday, April 17th, at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, April 18th, at 3:00 p.m. at the Franciscan Center for Music Education and Performance.
Show Author Paul Blair explains that the theme guides the selection of music for the show, with songs ranging from patriotic to modern and some just for fun.
One song in particular is not well known, but was written by Irving Berlin for National Brotherhood Week and recorded by Frank Sinatra in 1947.
The show will not only feature the Chordsmen, but will include chapter quartets Quandary, Lake Effect, BarberPops, Inspiration, and the Harmony to Go ensemble.
The 2015 International Barbershop Quartet Champions will also be special guests for the show.
They are made up of four good friends, two of whom are brothers, who have a passion for barbershop harmony, a cappella music, and music education.
City Chordsmen President Bill Fricke explains that the group is receiving a support grant from the Harmony Foundation International and the Association of International Championships to bring more singing to area schools on Friday.
