An area state representative is unhappy with a bill vetoed by Governor Tony Evers a couple of weeks ago.
State Representative Ron Tusler’s bill, which he called the Red Tap Reset, would have challenged “old and outdated government regulations that make it tough for Wisconsinites to do business.”
The Harrison Republican says Assembly Bill 275 would have required the state government to pay for legal fees if a resident has been subjected to an unnecessary rule and is part of the “solution to gutting the state’s old rules and letting Wisconsinites govern their own lives.”
In his veto message, Evers says the Republican controlled legislature would encroach on the administrative rulemaking authority of his office, something he says they did before he officially became governor in 2019.
He also said he wasn’t surprised to see one of the bill’s supporters, the Pacific Legal Foundation, specializes in suing the government.
Rep. Tusler says Gov. Evers fails to explain how the bill relates to the power of the legislature at all and says he sounds like he doesn’t want anyone to challenge administrative rules.
