The Calumet County Sheriff’s Office is reminding drivers that April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month.
This comes as distracted driving crashes were up 7% in the county last year compared to the prior five-year average.
The department also says more than 11% of crashes involved distracted driving, and over 21% of crash-related injuries were linked to distracted driving.
Drivers are reminded that a glance at a phone, adjusting the radio, eating, or other distractions can take their attention away from the road and put lives at risk.
Calumet County Sheriff’s deputies ask that residents put their phones down, set their destination before driving, keep focus on the road, and speak up if they are a passenger and see distracted driving. More information can be found on the Calumet County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.
