Organizations in the Sheboygan area are looking to spread awareness of sexual assault this month.
The month of April is nationally recognized as Sexual Assault Awareness Month and aims to support survivors, increase knowledge, and even prevent sexual assault.
In Sheboygan, the Victim Services Unit of the Sheboygan Police Department said, “For the month of April, you’ll see these teal ribbons on each squad as a reminder that you’re not alone and we’re here when you’re ready.”
They have also stated that they stand with survivors, their families, and the entire community in recognizing the importance of awareness, prevention, and support.
Likewise, Safe Harbor of Sheboygan County is not only recognizing April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month but also as Child Abuse Prevention Month as well.
To help signify this, Safe Harbor is inviting the public to take part in Denim Day on April 29th.
Simply wearing denim on the 29th will show support for survivors of sexual violence, and those who do participate are encouraged to snap a picture and share it with Safe Harbor.
Anyone in need of immediate assistance regarding sexual violence is urged to dial 911, while non-emergency support is available by calling SPD Victim Services at 920-459-3359 or Safe Harbor of Sheboygan County at 920-452-7640 for confidential support.
