The public is invited to attend the dedication of “Bruce Steinbecker Field” this afternoon prior to the Manitowoc Lincoln Ships baseball teams’ home and season opener against the Winneconne Wolves.
Athletics and Activities Director Stan Diedrich tells seehafernews.com that a short presentation to recognize Bruce, Maurice Jones and family, Andy Konkle, and the Manitowoc Public School Board will begin at 4:15 p.m. following pregame warmups.
Bruce Steinbecker Field, known formerly as Municipal Field, became official on June 19th of 2025 after MPSD approved a proclamation earlier that year to rename the field in Steinbecker’s honor.
The declaration stated that Steinbecker has served the district for 28, now 29 years, as a teacher and coach, embodying the values of leadership, perseverance, and community spirit.
The school district adds that the renaming of the field is also a symbolic gesture honoring all teachers and coaches throughout the Manitowoc Public School District, whose daily efforts shape the minds and futures of our youth with the same passion, purpose, and pride.
An official groundbreaking was held on July 31st of 2025 with renovations including installation of field turf, new bleachers, backstops, restrooms, a concession stand, a press box, and a changing room for umpires.
In an interview with seehafernews.com on July 31st of 2025, Steinbecker said of the former Municipal Field being renamed in his honor as being “truly humbling.”
He also noted, “There are a lot of people who deserve to have their names displayed on this field, I’m truly blessed to be a part of a baseball community that has nothing but the kids’ best interest at heart.”
Dates and times for other special events, including an all-sponsor recognition, alumni and youth program day, Senior Day, and Parents’ Day, will be announced very soon.
Members of the Manitowoc Lincoln School Choir will sing the national anthem prior to the first pitch, which is scheduled to be thrown at 4:30 p.m.
