The City of Two Rivers is taking action to try to get its harbor dredged.
The city council unanimously adopted a three-year harbor development statement for 2027-2029 for harbor dredging, seawall reconstruction, and a future breakwater extension to improve navigation safety and support downtown redevelopment investment.
City Manager Kyle Kordell says while the harbor statement isn’t a commitment to the projects, it allows the Cool City to allow for grant funding down the line.
City documents say that the reconstruction of the East Twin River seawall project would be critical in unlocking redevelopment on the former Hamilton Property site.
Councilmember Tim Petri was concerned about sediment in the water near the former factory site, but City Engineer Matt Heckenlaible explained that testing would be done before dredging.
Kordell noted that even if they get funding, the dredging won’t happen until 2027 at the earliest.
