The start to the track and field season has been historic for the Manitowoc Lincoln team.
The first record was broken at the Pam Kjono Girls’ Invite last Friday in the JFK Fieldhouse, where the Ships’ 4×800 relay shattered a 16-year-old school record.
Charlie Drossart, Ava Bierman, Norah Free, and Natalie Portmann completed the race in 10:15.40, which is nearly 15 seconds faster than the previous record set in 2010.
Portmann etched her name in the record books again yesterday, as the boys and girls teams traveled to Ripon College for the Red Hawk Challenge.
Portmann, who is a junior, broke the school record in the 3200-meter run, finishing with a time of 11:29.74,
knocking Sue Herbert off the record board for the first time since she ran the race in 11:31.8 in 1980.
As a team, the girls brought home their second meet championship of the season, while the boys finished 8th in the 20-team field.
