Progressive Lakeshore People and Indivisible joined millions across the country for another year of No Kings Protests.
The organization tells Seehafernews.com that 900 people attended a protest in Washington Park on Saturday (March 28th) against Donald Trump’s policies.
Two protesters whom we spoke with, named Alan and Joel, stated they returned to Washington Park to protest again because of their concern about the direction of the country.
Specifically, what’s happening in Congress.
“Congress has allowed him to break the law every day,” Joel stated. Alan then said, “They don’t do anything about it. They just sit back and make believe it’s not happening.”
Alan then continued saying that the comment is specifically about the war in Iran, when Congress can only declare war.
One organizer, who called herself a centrist, said she thought she would never be a leader in a Manitowoc No Kings protest.
But after incidents with ICE in Minneapolis, she said she had to do something. She also expressed her concern about the direction the Republican Party is heading in its beliefs.
One of Progressive Lakeshore People’s Founders, Jill Iverson, discussed what it means, given the number of people who showed up.
“This last year there are more people feeling more different kinds of harm,” she said. “The economy is really, really tough. It’s not just gas prices, it’s food prices. There’s people feeling it in all kinds of ways. And a lot of promises made to them have not been kept.”
We also asked why their group is supported even though some conservatives see their movement as un-American. Iverson says some just don’t understand the movement.
“No Kings is a no to authoritarianism and a yes for democracy,” she stated. “We are a democratic country, and we are a country of immigrants.”
More than 100 protests were planned across Wisconsin on Saturday.
The Republican Party of Wisconsin released a statement in response to the protests, saying the only king is Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers.
They continue to say, “While protesters cry wolf, Republicans are delivering real results for every Wisconsinite.”
