The City of Sheboygan is looking to purchase six plots of land.
At Monday’s (March 23rd) Public Works Committee meeting, the group unanimously moved to execute a vacant land offer to purchase land from the Redevelopment Authority to pave the way for future development of a new Public Works storage facility.
Currently, the appraised value of the six plots of land is $77,000 and is located adjacent to Maryland Avenue between South 21st Street and South 22nd Street.
On why this is necessary, Sheboygan Director of Public Works Travis Peterson explained, “The City of Sheboygan Municipal Services Building is currently at capacity for housing and storage of fleet vehicles, construction equipment, various supplies, and materials for multiple City departments. As a result, outside storage of a wide variety of equipment and supplies is occurring that is far from ideal, given the significant value of the equipment and supplies stored outside.”
Numerous locations across the city were considered for the location of this proposed storage facility, but these six plots were determined to be the best fit available.
With this approval from the Public Works Committee, the purchase now moves before the Common Council for full approval at a future date.
