A comeback attempt fell short for the Two Rivers girls’ softball team in its season opener last night.
The Raiders were in Plymouth, where they lost 5-4.
The Panthers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning, but the pitchers locked in for the next three innings, allowing no more runs until the Raiders plated a pair in the 6th inning.
With the game on the line, the Raiders added two more runs in the 7th, and held the Panthers scoreless, forcing an extra frame.
The Raiders couldn’t get any offense going, and allowed a run in the bottom of the 8th for a walk-off win for the Panthers.
Anna Klein pitched the entire game, striking out 9 batters in her season debut, but allowed 10 hits and 4 earned runs.
The Raiders notched six hits as a team, led by Paytynn Schramm, who went 2 for 4 with a triple and 2 RBI.
The other two runs were brought home by Rylee Timm and Payten Baumann.
Two Rivers will have a chance to bounce back tonight as they travel to North Fond du Lac.
