The Sheboygan Police Department is warning residents about another scam affecting the area.
The department has been made aware that individuals have been posing as garage door repair service workers who may be attempting to scam homeowners.
There are some key red flags to the scam, including excessive prices of $3,000 or more for standard repairs, unusual payment requests via Zelle, and high-pressure tactics to rush homeowners into unnecessary or immediate repairs.
Sheboygan Police are also offering tips to avoid the garage door scam, which includes verifying business information, getting multiple quotes, and asking for details.
It’s also a good idea to be cautious about extremely fast “same-day” appointments from generic companies.
The department also noted that if a resident encounters suspicious behavior or believes that they may have interacted with a fraudulent service, to report it by calling them at 920-459-3333.
