The Mayor of Manitowoc has responded to the recent trend of Nazi rhetoric in the city.
It all started when a white nationalist group known as Patriot Front staged a protest in the downtown area of the city, holding signs saying “Deport Invaders.”
Then, two people were seen on security camera footage hanging posters with what was described as “hateful rhetoric” at the Wisconsin Maritime Museum near the USS Cobia. Additional incidents have been reported in Sheboygan County as well.
Manitowoc Mayor Justin Nickels has responded, telling SeehaferNews.com that the right to free speech is one that he and the city fully support.
However, he added, “It has long been part of our community’s moral compass to reject speech that is hateful or targeted toward any group. That principle has always guided us, and it continues to do so today.”
He also noted that the hanging of those signs was considered vandalism, which is illegal.
He closed by saying, “Our commitment to protecting every resident is unwavering. If anyone feels threatened or unsafe, please reach out to me or to the Manitowoc Police Department. We take these matters seriously, and we are here to support you.”
