State Senator Andre Jacque went one for three on bills that reached Governor Tony Evers’ desk late last week.
The one bill of his that was signed into law, and is now known as Act 106, allows prosecutors to combine the value of stolen items within a six-month period to allow for a more appropriate penalty.
Sen Jacque said of the measure, “Modern thieves have chosen to strategically move from store to store in an attempt to evade and limit punishment. By combining multiple crimes into a larger charge, we can close this loophole in Wisconsin law and hold thieves accountable.”
However, the No Patient Left Alone Act, formally known as Senate Bill 417, was vetoed.
The bill would have protected the right of patients and residents in Wisconsin health care facilities to receive in-person visitors during public health emergencies, provided that appropriate safety protocols are in place.
Also vetoed was Senate Bill 7, which would have banned foreign adversaries of the United States from owning property in Wisconsin.
Sen. Jacque voiced his disappointment, saying, “At a time when hostile regimes such as the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) are actively expanding their global influence, Wisconsin should not leave itself exposed.”
