Despite it being nearly a month and a half away, a local nonprofit is already preparing for a nationwide food drive.
The National Association of Letter Carriers’ annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive, the largest single-day food drive in the country, will be held on May 9th.
Throughout the day and country, mail carriers will collect food donations while out on their designated routes, however, volunteers are needed to make the event go smoothly.
That’s where the Sheboygan County Food Bank comes in.
Volunteers with the Food Bank are an essential component of the food drive locally to aid in collecting and organizing donations in Sheboygan County, as the Food Bank receives donations from the City of Sheboygan, Howards Grove, and the Village of Kohler.
Volunteer shifts will last two or three hours between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on May 9th.
Those who are unable to volunteer but want to donate are encouraged to give items such as pasta and sauce, canned soup, tuna, or fruit, oatmeal, or personal care items.
This year, the Food Bank has set the goal of collecting 30,000 pounds of food during the annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive.
Those interested in volunteering with the Food Bank can sign up to do so online by visiting sheboygancountyfoodbank.com.
