The City of Manitowoc will receive state assistance for improvements to a major beach project.
The Common Council approved an agreement for a Wisconsin DNR Outdoor Recreation Aids Grant for the Red Arrow Beach Park project that’s scheduled to get underway this year.
The grant will provide $500,000, provided the city matches that amount. Improvements to Red Arrow Park include developing stairways and ramps to the beach to become ADA-compliant, a plaza with seating, improvements to the existing parking area, an open-air shelter, connecting walkways, and updates to utilities.
In February, the Common Council accepted bids totaling more than $1 million for beach access.
The council also received a T-Mobile Hometown Grant for access to the beach.
