A lot of work was done by the City of Manitowoc during this week’s blizzard.
Mayor Justin Nickels said on WOMT’s Be My Guest program yesterday (March 17th) that the city has about twenty city employees through different departments who worked to clear the snow throughout the city and downtown, along with some private contractors.
A lot of snow had to be removed.
The mayor said that included “460 loads of massive trucks of snow, just out of downtown. That was just yesterday morning and early afternoon.”
Nickels says the city did the best it could with the roads, especially after a bit of rain and sleet covered the ground first before the major snowstorm Sunday into Monday.
He also thanked the community for their patience with snowplow crews, saying, “They’re working as hard as they can to get things as manageable as possible here for the next couple of days before we can start ripping stuff up.”
There is also a lot of city staff working behind the scenes, sending out information, and the mechanics fixing the snow trucks when needed.
Manitowoc looks to have gotten about 18-21 inches of snow from the blizzard.
The National Weather Serviceshowed that Two Rivers received about 21.5 inches of snow from the storm, but didn’t give a specific total for the City of Manitowoc.
