The Door County Highway Department is asking for patience as they continue to dig out from this week’s blizzard.
Director Thad Ash explains that over 33 inches of rain were recorded in the county, the largest ever.
A typical snowstorm takes full crews for about eight to ten hours to clear after the snow stops.
However, Ash says the blizzard was far from normal.
When the storm started, the Door County Highway Department’s focus was on State Highways overnight, but they tried to make one pass into most town roads on Sunday prior to getting back to state highways.
Highway crews also helped Wisconsin Public Service to restore power in the county and help the Door County Sheriff’s Office with calls.
Ash continues saying that they understand that everyone is frustrated, but the department is working as hard as possible to open all roads, and their hope was to make it happen by the end of the day yesterday.
Ash finished saying that he would like to thank all the staff who worked 16 hours in hazardous conditions for doing their best to stay on top of the storm.
He also thanked residents for their kind words and understanding during the record-setting snowstorm.
