Tonight is the night for the Mishicot Police Department’s awareness event on sextortion.
The event begins at 5:00 p.m. tonight at the Fairway Inn and Suites in Mishicot, with free food service, followed by the presentation at 6:00 p.m.
At 6:15, Speaker John DeMay will share the story of losing his son Jordan to sextortion and give a presentation to the community.
A law enforcement Question and Answer panel will follow at 7:30 p.m. before door prizes are drawn at 8:00 p.m.
Mishicot officials call the presentation blunt and powerful and recommend it for those aged 10 and up with a parent.
The event will also include victim families sharing and supporting one another, as well as victim resource organizations on-site.
Sextortion has been made an official crime in Wisconsin thanks to Braydn’s Law, which was signed into law in December last year.
The bill creates a civil cause of action for victims of sexual extortion or their family and allows the parents or estate of a victim who takes their own life to file a wrongful death lawsuit.
