The case against a man accused of killing a Canadian national in Sheboygan Falls is waiting on a few key pieces of evidence.
The lawyers for Luis Cruz Burgos appeared in front of Sheboygan County Judge Natasha Torry yesterday (March 17th) for a scheduling conference.
It was noted that the District Attorney’s Office is still waiting on some pieces of discovery from the state crime lab, including missing or destroyed body camera footage from the deputies involved in the arrest.
36-year-old Cruz Burgos is facing a charge of 1st Degree Reckless Homicide for the September killing of Giovanni Micheal Robinson.
A criminal complaint explains that Cruz Burgos, who worked as a DoorDash driver, was completing a delivery in Sheboygan Falls when he was approached by Robinson and three other individuals who were attempting to find a ride back to their hotel in the Village of Kohler.
The two sides could not agree on the terms of payment for a ride back, and the parties went their separate ways.
It is alleged that Cruz Burgos later made a U-turn and fired a single shot at the group, striking Robinson in the chest.
Curz Burgos is due back in court on April 17th for a status conference.
