A man is dead following a shooting involving the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were called out late Wednesday night to the town of West Point for a possible hit-and-run, and went to a man’s home as part of the investigation.
Officials say a 37-year-old man came out of the home armed with a long gun and aimed it at law enforcement, leading to the deputies opening fire.
The man was hit and later died after being taken to the hospital.
No deputies were injured, and other agencies are helping out with the investigation.
