Dredging of the Two Rivers harbor is being pushed back.
City officials have announced that they met with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers regarding the already overdue work, but they found out that due to federal funding priorities, the project could now be pushed back to 2028.
The post continues explaining that the continued delay places smaller Wisconsin harbor communities like Two Rivers in a very difficult position.
As a federally authorized harbor, Two Rivers lacks the local financial resources to maintain the channel independently.
Dredging, the process of removing sediment from the harbor bottom to make it easier for boats to navigate, needs to be done every 5 years to remain safely navigable.
The harbor was last dredged in 2020.
Two Rivers officials also highlighted the need to do so to support commercial fishing, charter operations, and recreational boating.
Officials will continue to advocate with federal partners and legislators to complete the project.
