The University of Madison – Wisconsin is rejecting the use of license plate reader technology.
Academic staff approved a resolution this week concerning the school’s use of the equipment produced by Flock Safety.
UW – Madison has eight of the cameras on campus, and detects tens of thousands of vehicles each day.
Staff argued the equipment could be used beyond its original purpose in the future.
It’s the same equipment that a Milwaukee police officer recently resigned over for allegedly misusing it.
