The Manitowoc Public School District continues to get ready for summer construction projects.
Last night (March 10th), the school board approved a contract with Holton Brothers Inc. for tuckpointing work at all district elementary and middle schools, totaling $273,285.
Director of Buildings and Grounds Mike Schwarz explained that they needed to approve the contract early, “Because a lot of these guys are out two years in advance because they only have so many workers and there’s so much work to do.”
About $103,000 will go toward Wilson Middle School.
The board also approved a lighting project proposal for Stangel, Franklin, and Monroe Elementary Schools. Schwarz recommended a company called CES Contemporary, which offered the district a 10-year warranty, compared to only a 5-year warranty from other bids the district received.
CES also did lighting work for Jefferson Elementary School last year and has a local connection.
The district also awarded the sale of $11 million promissory notes as part of borrowing $25 million.
The money will go toward immediate fixes needed to keep the schools running. The MPSD board borrowed $14 million last year to start summer projects.
