With the change into daylight saving time, the Manitowoc County Emergency Services Division is reminding homeowners to review and refresh their emergency preparedness plans.
The group recommends that everyone have a plan in place, so they don’t have to lose sleep when an emergency or disaster occurs.
It’s also a good time to assemble or restock a home or vehicle emergency kit, which includes checking for expired products or items that need to be replaced.
The Emergency Services Division recommends that home emergency kits have enough water stored to provide a gallon per person per day over three days, while also recommending having an extra flashlight, batteries, a first aid kit, and a list of emergency contacts.
Emergency Services Director Rhonda Green also says daylight saving time is an ideal time to prepare your home to better withstand the impact of severe weather events.
That includes removing debris from gutters, trimming tree limbs and branches, and testing your sump pump to make sure it works.
