Senate Democrats have failed to pass a war powers resolution that would have halted President Trump from using further military action against Iran without Congressional approval.
Wednesday’s vote was related to the 1973 War Powers Act — a Vietnam-war era resolution meant to check the president’s power to enter armed conflict without consent from the Legislative branch.
Yesterday’s vote was largely along party lines, with Wisconsin Republican Senator Ron Johnson voting against and Wisconsin Democratic Senator Tammy Baldwin voting in favor.
The House is expected to take up a similar measure today, although Trump has already said he would likely veto the measure if it were passed.
