New housing options will be coming to Downtown Sheboygan in the future.
At Monday’s (March 2nd) Common Council meeting, the group voted to enter a Tax Incremental District Development Agreement with Harbor View Lofts, LLC, to construct two separate housing complexes at 636 Wisconsin Avenue, the former home of the Downtown Wells Fargo building.
Through this TID agreement, the City will pay Harbor View a total of $4.76 million through a Tax Increment Project Municipal Revenue Obligation for both of the separate housing units.
Regarding how the two housing complexes will be broken down, Sheboygan’s Director of Planning and Development, Taylor Zeinert, explained, “The project will include a 126-unit market rate apartment building located on the corner of 7th Street and Wisconsin Avenue, along with 10 townhomes to be constructed on the lot behind the former Wells Fargo building at the corner of 6th Street and Washington Court.”
The apartment building will also include eight three-bedroom units, while the townhomes also feature three-bedroom layouts, which Zeinert added helps address the demand for larger units.
Zeinert finished by saying, “By transforming a highly visible property into new housing, we are strengthening our downtown, increasing the availability of family-sized units, and creating attainable housing options for residents.”
The next step for the City will be for the development proposal to be reviewed by the Plan Commission.
