One person is dead following a structure fire in Brown County.
The Green Bay Metro Fire Department was called to the scene of the fire in the 100 block of Scarlet Lane in the Village of Bellevue at 8:30 Sunday morning (March 1st), where two people were said to be trapped inside the burning home.
Crews arrived to find smoke billowing from the structure, and found that one of the two residents had already evacuated.
Firefighters were able to locate the second individual, but they were later pronounced dead at the scene.
The first occupant was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation. The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes, but the cause is still under investigation.
The Green Bay Fire Department is using this opportunity to highlight the critical role of working smoke alarms, which they say alerted the occupants to evacuate the home.
Department officials noted, “This incident serves as an important reminder of the life-saving potential of smoke alarms. For those in need of smoke alarms, please call our hotline at (920) 448-3303 or visit our website at GreenBayFD.com.”
