Mishicot junior Own Schadt claims a state championship in the Division Three 190-pound weight class at the WIAA State Individual Wrestling Championships at the Kohl Center in Madison, Saturday night.
He defeated senior Nolan Hanke of Lancaster in a major decision by a score of 14 to 5 and finished his junior season with a record of 59 and 1.
Meanwhile, three Manitowoc County wrestlers brought home silver medals. Two Rivers senior Max Matthias lost to senior Garrett Kawczyniski of Port Washington 7 to 1 in the Division Two 215-pound title match.
Two Rivers Senior Angie Bianchi came up short to win a third straight state title at 120 pounds, losing to sophomore Daelin Cody of Princeton Green Lake 4 to 3, and Manitowoc Lincoln senior Emjay Neumann lost to senior Taylor Whiting of Lena in the 114-pound title match by a score of 10 to 5.
With the victory, Whiting, the top-ranked 114-pound wrestler in the nation, is a four-time state champion, joining her brother Clayton, who also won four state titles at Lena High School.
They are believed to be the only brother-sister duo to each win four state titles in the history of the sport.
