The Manitowoc Lutheran Lancers are arguably playing the best basketball of anyone in Manitowoc County.
They look for their fifth consecutive victory and 15th in their last 16 games in Hilbert against the Wolves tonight.
Two keys to their success have been good shooting and not beating themselves. They have seven of the core group shooting better than 44 percent from the field, with two reserves, juniors Joshiah Martin and Chase Fischer, shooting better than 61 percent from the field, while committing just over six fouls and 12 turnovers per game, on average.
Tonight’s game is the start of four straight games against ranked teams to end the regular season (Hilbert, Kohler, Roncalli, and Reedsville).
Hilbert will present a formidable challenge as, after a slow start, the Wolves have won six of their last eight and debut in the Max Preps Division Five rankings at number 25.
They truly play as a team, with not one player averaging double-figure scoring.
Case in point, they put up a season high 81 points in a victory over Random Lake Tuesday night and have scored 70 points or more in four of their victories during this recent hot streak.
Coverage on 980 WCUB and CubRadio.com begins at 7:00 p.m. after the girls’ game, which begins at 5:30 p.m.
There are just two other boys’ games of local and area interest as Sheboygan North heads up to Pulaski and Cedar Grove/Belgium entertains Random Lake.
