A new restaurant has moved one step closer to opening in Sheboygan’s Downtown.
At last week’s City Plan Commission meeting, the group unanimously approved a conditional use permit for SEAR’D – Korean BBQ & Karaoke Restaurant, which is hoping to open its doors at 723 New York Avenue.
The location is a formal retail space and the longtime home to Art Imig’s Clothing Store.
The proposed use would be to offer a two-story Korean BBQ restaurant with private karaoke rooms, a full-service bar, and tableside grilling.
With the space being a former clothing store, a massive overhaul of the interior would be necessary to get the building into compliance with city ordinances relating to restaurants.
SEAR’D has also stated that, if approved, they would retain the building’s historic exterior character while incorporating modern industrial elements with Asian accents inside the restaurant.
With the unanimous approval from the Plan Commission, the CUP for SEAR’D – Korean BBQ & Karaoke Restaurant will now move in front of the Sheboygan Common Council for full approval in the future.
