Five more bills from a local state senator are heading to Governor Tony Evers’ desk.
Safety bills for different groups authored by Republican State Senator Andre Jacque include a bill that would make significant reforms to the adoption system in Wisconsin by allowing the voluntary termination of parental rights for a child under one year old through a witness and notarized affidavit, rather than requiring the parent to appear in court.
A second bill, passed on a voice vote, would create a statewide bill of rights for sexual assault survivors and would require the state to process the kits of sexual assault victims promptly.
Sen. Jacque said of the bill, “To strengthen existing constitutional rights with statutory enforcement mechanisms, SB 224 will require the state to process the kits of sexual assault victims promptly, and keep victims informed about the status of their kit throughout an investigation.”
A third bill would create penalties for people trafficking carfentanil (car-fentanyl), a synthetic opioid similar to fentanyl intended for exclusive use as a veterinary tranquilizer.
The drug is being mixed with other drugs and is 100 times more potent than fentanyl.
A fourth bill would ratify and enter Wisconsin into the Cosmetology Licensure Compact, while a fifth would require school boards to involve parents in any name change for a student.
