In a game between two heavyweights, the Manitowoc Lutheran Lancers girls’ basketball team took on Howards Grove last night.
In this Big East North conference clash, the Lancers would take down the Tigers 59-52.
Right from the opening tip, the game was a back-and-forth contest with neither side able to pull away from the other.
After a first half that featured numerous lead changes, Howards Grove and Lutheran would enter the break tied up at 26.
The second half picked up right where the first left off, with each team trading blows and the lead.
However, seniors Marissa Mehlhorn and Abi Behnke would come alive in the second period, each netting 10 in the second half.
Thanks to some big baskets and some even bigger defensive stops in the late stages of this one, the Lancers would take the lead and never relinquish it.
The Lancers were led on the offensive end by a trio of seniors with Makiah Krause, Mehlhorn, and Behnke all finishing with a joint team high 13 points, while junior Addison Stoeckigt led the Tigers with 13 as well.
With the win, Manitowoc Lutheran improves to 17-4 on the year and 8-2 in conference.
Up next for the Lancers will be a trip to Kiel on Monday.
