Two bills authored by an area state representative are trying to get two bills about religion passed through the Wisconsin Legislature.
State Representative Ron Tusler of Harrison explains that Assembly Bill 796 would allocate $5 million annually to help faith-based organizations that can show that they are under threat.
Rep. Tusler explains that incidents like the 2012 mass shooting at the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin and another at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison show the need for the funding.
He continues saying, “No one should have to go through an attack simply because of their personal beliefs.”
Another bill that we’ve mentioned previously is still working its way through committee.
Assembly Bill 446 would adopt the definition of antisemitism used by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance in 2016.
Rep. Tusler reiterates that it “does not prevent any speech but simply provides additional tools to Jewish-Wisconsinites when someone has committed a hate crime against them.”
Both bills are still working their way through committees.
