The City of Green Bay is getting a new metro fire station.
In an announcement from the city, Mayor Eric Genrich says Senator Tammy Baldwin and 8th District Congressman Tony Wied secured $5 million in federal funding for the new station and administration headquarters on South Broadway.
The funding was included in the final 2026 appropriations package passed by the U.S. Senate and House.
Genrich is deeply grateful to Rep. Wied and Sen. Baldwin for their investment, saying, “This federal support comes at a critical time as we work to replace the now-closed Fire Station 1 and outdated Fire Station 3 with a modern facility that will serve our community for decades to come.”
The new Green Bay fire station will combine operations from two stations, housing firefighters from one station and relocating department leadership and administrative staff.
Current construction costs are expected to be about $19 million, with $5 million in federal grants helping out a portion of the project.
Ground breaking for the fire station is slated for the summer of 2026.
