Ahead of the first of two meetings in Two Rivers regarding what’s next for the former Hamilton Property, the City has addressed some frequently asked questions on the matter.
City Manager Kyle Kordell tells SeehaferNews.com that as he and his colleagues prepare for tonight’s meeting at 5:30 p.m., they have come across multiple similar questions from residents, including eminent domain concerns.
“The city is not pursuing eminent domain for the Hamilton property. This process is not about taking property,” Kordell explained. “It’s about listening, planning ahead, and being ready when the time comes for the city to acquire the property.”
Another common concern revolves around the property’s price tag and cost negotiations.
The City Manager told us, “There’s no land acquisition price set.”
He added, “No financial decisions are being made as part of this community visioning process, and real estate negotiations will only occur later after a community visioning process is completed.”
The third and final most commonly asked question is whether the Hamilton property has been contaminated.
To those questions raised, City Manager Kordell says, “This site is not terribly contaminated. All available groundwater sampling data looks encouraging, and any future acquisition would only occur when the city secures important legal protections that would remove all environmental cleanup liability from the city.”
He finished by telling us, “This part is in the works.”
These issues, as well as brainstorming ideas, plans, and other concerns, will be further discussed tonight ahead of the first Hamilton property community listening session, which will be held inside the Koska Room in the J.E. Hamilton Community House.
The second such meeting is scheduled for Saturday (February 7th) at 10:00 a.m., also inside the Koska Room.
