One of the two men charged with abducting a teen from Two Rivers needs a new interpreter before his case can continue.
33-year-old Pedro Giron Perez and 23-year old Alexcer Solis Gomez were back in Manitowoc County Court last week for their initial appearances.
Assistant District Attorney Angelina Scarpelli asked to toll the time limit for Perez because he doesn’t speak Spanish, but a language called Tzotzil, originally used by the Mayans.
Judge Jerilyn Dietz approved the extra time on the 33-year-old’s case so a proper interpreter can be found.
Giron Perez will return to court on March 5th. An attorney has not been appointed for Solis Gomez, although he does qualify for the Public Defender’s office.
He’ll return to court on February 9th for a preliminary hearing. Both men were arrested in Wyoming toward the end of last year after Two Rivers Police were called to check on a 16-year-old girl after her family reported her missing.
Witnesses said the girl got into a car with California license plates before the car was tracked down.
Prosecutors say that Solis Gomez told them he was paid by Giron Perez to take the girl to California to be with her boyfriend.
