A Two Rivers man accused of physically abusing a child is still searching for a lawyer.
Court records show that 24-year-old David Flores returned to Manitowoc County court yesterday (January 29th) for his preliminary hearing as he faces one felony count of Child Abuse, Intentionally Causing Harm, and Misdemeanor Bail Jumping.
During yesterday’s hearing, it was revealed that, while Flores qualifies for the state’s Public Defender Program, legal counsel has yet to be appointed.
For this reason, the 24-year-old requested to push back his hearing until he finds legal representation, which the court approved.
Also at yesterday’s proceedings, Flores made an additional request to modify his bail, but it was denied.
At this time, it is unclear what request was made, but as part of his bail, he was ordered to have no contact with the underage victim or anyone under the age of 18 while he remains in custody on a $2,000 cash bail.
Flores was arrested earlier this month after a detective with the Manitowoc Police Department was made aware of a child abuse case by Manitowoc Child Protective Services involving Flores.
In the police report regarding the incident, he is accused of punching and kicking the victim, hitting them with a belt, and throwing them into a door frame after they called him ‘bro.’
Flores will return to court for his rescheduled preliminary hearing on February 12th at 3:00 p.m. in Branch 4.
